Annual extinguisher servicing
Our fixed price extinguisher servicing includes provision and fitting of all service parts where necessary (anti-tamper tags, safety pins, labels, o-rings etc.)
During the service, our technician will
- Visually inspect the extingusher for signs of use or damage
- Check and verify that labels and markings are legible and correct
- Inspect, maintain and clean the discharge hose
- Weigh the extinguisher and contents, re-fill if necessary and replace any required parts
- Secure loose wall fixings
- Update service records and provide a certificate of inspection.
Extinguisher extended service
In addition to basic annual servicing, extinguishers also require extended annual servicing at different intervals, depending on their type -
- Water, every 5 years
- Foam, every 5 years
- Powder, every 5 years
- CO2, every 10 years.
On top of the basic service, this also involves a complete discharge of the extinguisher to ensure it is working correctly, and is then refilled ready to use.
Depending on the age and condition of the extinguisher, it is sometimes more cost effective to replace the unit entirely. Our technicians will be able to discuss this with you in advance giving you a price for each option so that you can make an informed decision.
Comissioning and installation
Before being deemed fit for use, every extinguisher must undergo an initial inspection called a Comissioning Service, even from new. This is a legal requirement under British Standard 5306 Part 3.
Failure to have the extinguisher commissioned and certified will invalidate fire insurance cover.
There has been a rise in companies offering to "commission" extinguishers before delivery, however this will not be valid. This is because the unit may be damaged during delivery, and the comissioning process involves postioning and installation of the extinguisher on site to ensure suitability.
