We can ensure your business remains compliant.
Under current legislation, BS 5306 requires employers to take responsibility for the provision and annual maintenance of firefighting equipment in the workplace.
Our technicians at Exservice are fully trained to the highest standards, and by using us to maintain and service your fire extinguishers, you can rest assured that they will be ready to use if needed.

Why is maintenance of fire extinguishers so important?
Of course first and foremost, it is a legal obligation.
However if you want to be sure your extinguisher will work should you ever need it, regular maintenance and inspections ensure it is fit for purpose and safe to use.
Fire extinguishers save lives and minimise damage from fire and smoke, but only if they work properly!

Effectiveness
A recent UK study found that 93% of small fires were extinguished using portable fire extinguishers.

Injury and fatality prevention
It is estimated that portable extinguishers prevent 1629 injuries, and 24 deaths each year.

Your first line of defence
It takes on average 8 mins for the Fire Brigade to attend to a reported fire, and unfortunately this time is expected to increase due to service cuts.
This is more than enough time for a small fire to develop into a destructive and life-threatening inferno.
However, trained personnel with access to working extinguishers can intervene at these early stages to prevent it developing.

Economic benefits
Savings to the UK economy are estimated to be in the region of £500m each year due to limiting the amount of damage caused by a fire, through early intervention with portable fire extinguishers.

Business costs
The average cost to a small business from fire last year was £78,000.
Thankfully, most businesses are covered for fire damage by their insurance cover.
However, it is worth noting that most insurers will not pay out on a claim due to fire if the extinguishers have not been properly serviced and maintained - whether an attempt was made to use them or not. Therefore the importance of servicing your extinguishers and being able to provide a record of this should be paramount to your business.

Fire prevention does not always work
Even with modern safety and preventative measures, unfortunately fires still occur in the workplace.
Last year in the UK it was estimated there were approximately 22,000 workplace fires.
While prevention is always the preferred option, things can go wrong and being prepared for that is the next best thing.
Services We Offer:

Supplying and comissioning of required extinguishers
Upon inspection, we can advise if more extinguishers are required for your workplace. We can supply these directly to you and commission them on site so they are ready to use should you need them.
We can also replace existing extinguishers that have reached the end of their serviceable life.

Supplying and fitting of safety and information signs
Fire safety signs are also required by law, and must be placed correctly according to current legislation. Our technicians can assess your current provision, advise on any additional measures needed and supply and fit them in line with current requirements.

This offers your business a much more cost effective solution compared to replacing the entire extinguisher, with the added benefit of also being better for the environment by reducing waste.
